Femme Form

Senior Capstone | Spring 2019

Femme Form is about creating positive body image through art and education, by shedding enlightenment and acceptance of every “body” type. My senior capstone focused on feeling good about who you are. I did this by getting people to realize the average female body size is 14 and an abundance of retailers don’t even carry this size. Today some retailers, including Who What Wear from Target, Nordstrom, J. Crew, and Madewell are a few who are producing clothing for plus sizes.

Students were tasked with creating a 10x10 space for viewers to engage in. I educated candidates on what a size 2, size 14, and size 18 look like, by 3D cardboard mannequins. Being positive about your body and preventing negative body image can help you in the long run, according to research and survey results.

Here’s to women hyping women!

While false advertising, negative media, and unrepresentative retailers cloud the lens through which women see themselves, these photos represent women in their most natural state: expressing their most authentic body image.
